23rd Türkiye Bird Conference

The 23rd Türkiye Bird Conference will take place in Istanbul on 9–11 October 2026 under the theme “Migratory Birds”. This year’s partners are Üsküdar Municipality, Roots & Shoots Türkiye, Bird Collective of Turkiye and the Istanbul Bird Observatory Association.

Thanks to its geographical location, Anatolia lies on one of the world's most important migration routes for birds. It is of particular global significance for soaring migrants travelling between Africa and Europe, and between Africa and Asia. While some species pass through Türkiye on their way to breeding grounds, others migrate to the country to spend the winter. Long-distance migrants are capable of crossing large bodies of water, such as the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, in a single night.

In addition, every winter millions of waterbirds leave their northern breeding grounds and travel to Türkiye’s wetlands to overwinter. This unique position along major migration flyways makes Türkiye an important destination for both birdwatching and ornithological research.

Over the course of three days, the conference will feature expert presentations, participant contributions and field activities.

The program and related details will be shared in the coming period.
